Well, what a fantastic day!! Everyone I met enjoyed themselves, even if we were a bit tired. Some hard sections, more off road sections than I thought (not a bad thing) and blinding scenery.
My only slight “criticism” is the timing doesn’t reflect punctures, stopping at the feed station or helping others with mechanical breakdowns, but how would you police that on a live event? 45hrs and 1 minute for the full 76 isn’t bad for a 49 year old.
I shall make sure I do it again.

Thanks Andy, it’s great to hear that you enjoyed the event so much! As you say, we can’t take account for punctures and mechanicals in the timing, I think everyone just have to take those things as part of their good or bad fortune on the day! Weighing up the balance between CX and MTB bikes on these events too, it’s only fair to that the robustness and reliability of MTBs should be reflected in the comparison, set against the extra speed, (but maybe greater fragility) of a cross bike.

We don’t neutralise your timing at checkpoints for similar reasons. By no means is everyone going for the fastest possible time on the day, but for those who are, we think part of the challenge is judging the time you need at the stops to rest and refuel enough to stay on pace, without staying so long that you lose time. A bit like getting a good pit stop in Formula 1! Of course, if you want to hang around a bit longer at the stops and enjoy the day, that’s good too!

Certainly no criticisms intended. A fair course, wonderful organisation and the camaraderie between entrants was superb.

I have been surfing on-line greater than 3 hours these days, yet I by no means discovered any interesting article like yours. It is beautiful value enough for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet can be a lot more useful than ever before.
